EKU Volleyball Secures 20th Win with Sweep of North Alabama

Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team celebrated its 20th win of the season in dominant fashion, sweeping the University of North Alabama 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-19) on Senior Day at the Rick Erdmann Olympic Sports Training Center.

The victory marks back-to-back 20-win seasons for the Colonels (20-9, 11-5 ASUN) for the first time since 2004 and 2005, building on last year’s 21-9 campaign.

Match Highlights
Senior outside hitter Sarah Mitchell led the way in her final home match, posting a match-high 14 kills on a .458 hitting percentage. Fellow seniors Paige Wagers and Josie Schmitendorf also shone, with Wagers contributing seven kills, a .500 attack percentage, and seven blocks, while Schmitendorf recorded a match-best 11 digs.

  • Set 1: EKU 25, UNA 13
    After an early 3-2 deficit, the Colonels seized control with a commanding 14-3 run. Carson Ledford sparked the surge with a kill to tie the score, and Sarah Mitchell capped the stretch with a kill to push the lead to 16-6. Cooper Abney closed the set with a kill for a 25-13 win.
  • Set 2: EKU 25, UNA 18
    North Alabama held an 18-15 advantage before EKU stormed back with a stunning 10-0 run to close out the set. An ace by Emilee Hill broke an 18-18 tie, and Hill’s second ace of the streak sealed the 25-18 victory. Hill finished the match with three aces, 19 assists, and 10 digs.
  • Set 3: EKU 25, UNA 19
    The Colonels rallied again in the third set, using an 8-1 run to overturn a 15-14 deficit. Kambree Lucas tied the score with a kill, and Abney’s ace extended the lead to 19-15. Sarah Mitchell fittingly ended the match with her 14th kill, giving EKU the sweep.
