EKU Alum Ahmed Jaziri to Represent Tunisia at 2024 Summer Olympics

Eastern Kentucky University alum and former national champion Ahmed Jaziri will represent his native country, Tunisia, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

This marks the fifth Olympic Games to feature an EKU alum, with Jaziri being the second Colonel to compete in the steeplechase at the Olympics. Two-time NCAA bronze medalist Ole Hesselbjerg competed in the steeplechase at the Olympics in 2016 and 2020.

Qualification and Achievements

  • Qualification: Jaziri qualified for the Paris Olympics with a personal-best time of 8:14.93 on September 10, 2023, in Zagreb, Croatia.
  • National Champion: Jaziri was a national champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2022, breaking the school record with a college-best time of 8:18.70, which is the third-fastest in NCAA history.
  • All-American: Jaziri was a Second Team All-American for the steeplechase in 2021.
