University of Kentucky women’s basketball freshman center Clara Silva has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for her impressive performance in her first two college games. The announcement came Tuesday from the SEC, marking Silva’s first weekly honor from the conference.
Silva’s Standout Stats
The 6-foot-7 center from Portugal opened her college career by scoring a combined 32 points on 75% shooting (15-of-20) over two games. Her impact wasn’t limited to scoring; she also tallied 11 rebounds, 11 blocks, and four assists in these games.
Key Highlights:
- Season Opener vs. USC Upstate: Silva went a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line, finishing with 14 points. She added seven rebounds, six blocks, and two assists in Kentucky’s commanding 98-43 victory. She became the first player since Makayla Epps in 2014 to shoot perfectly from the field with at least five field goals made. Silva also came close to setting Kentucky’s single-game and freshman school records for blocks.
- Game vs. Northern Kentucky: Leading all scorers, Silva recorded 18 points, with four offensive rebounds, two assists, and five blocks, contributing significantly to the Wildcats’ 70-41 win.
National Leader in Blocks
Silva’s defensive prowess has set her apart early, as she’s tied for the nation’s lead in blocks per game (5.5) and is tied for second in total blocks (11). Her shot-blocking ability has quickly made her one of the Wildcats’ most valuable assets.
Upcoming Game
Currently ranked No. 20/22, Kentucky will face Wofford tonight at 6 p.m. ET in Historic Memorial Coliseum, where Silva looks to build on her strong start and help her team continue their early success.
