WKU Soccer made a late push but couldn’t overcome a two-goal deficit, falling 2-1 to Arkansas State on Sunday. The Red Wolves (3-1-2) scored early and added a second goal late in the match before the Hilltoppers (2-4-0) responded quickly, but they were unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes.

How It Happened
Arkansas State got off to a fast start, scoring their first goal in just the fourth minute of play. Despite the early setback, WKU held their ground and matched the Red Wolves in shots during the first half, with each team recording four attempts.

In the second half, WKU increased the pressure, outshooting Arkansas State 6-3. However, the Red Wolves extended their lead in the 71st minute, going up 2-0. Just 36 seconds later, WKU’s Kayla Meyer responded by maneuvering past a defender in the box and scoring to cut the deficit to 2-1. Despite the late goal, the Hilltoppers couldn’t find the equalizer.

Quotable
“For us, we haven’t been a team that’s been very good in the last several years where we’re down a goal or two goals. To be able to fight back and put ourselves in a position to possibly tie the game up was great,” said head coach Jason Neidell.
