Kentucky women’s soccer continued its flawless 2024 season, improving to 6-0-0 with a 1-0 victory over in-state rival Murray State at the Bell Soccer Complex on Thursday evening. Freshman Anna Sikorski delivered the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, helping the Wildcats overcome a stubborn defensive effort from the Racers and securing their best start to a season in 13 years.

Despite dominating possession and outshooting Murray State 11-1 in the first half, Kentucky struggled to break through the Racers’ solid defensive shape. The Wildcats created multiple chances but were unable to convert, leading to a frustrating 0-0 stalemate at halftime. Determined to find a way past Murray State’s defense, Kentucky pushed forward aggressively in the second half.

The breakthrough came after nearly 20 minutes of pressure. Maddie Kemp lofted a ball to Makala Woods near the side of the box, who controlled it before finding Sikorski at the top of the box. Sikorski took a touch, set the ball on her left foot, and curled a perfectly placed shot just out of the reach of Racers’ goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio, securing the only goal of the match. Kentucky continued to press for a second goal but couldn’t add to their tally.

This win marks the Wildcats’ best start to a season since 2011 and only the third time in program history they have begun 6-0. The 2011 squad went 7-0 before losing to No. 24 Dayton. The victory also represents head coach Troy Fabiano’s best start since taking over the program in 2022. Kentucky recorded its fourth shutout at home this season, further solidifying their strong defensive performances.

The Wildcats will return to the Bell Soccer Complex on Sunday, September 8th, at noon for a marquee matchup against No. 9 UCLA.
