The University of Louisville women’s soccer team was on the brink of securing its third consecutive victory, but a late equalizer led to a 1-1 draw against New Hampshire on Thursday at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Lauryn Contini scored for the Cardinals (2-0-1) in the first half, but New Hampshire (2-0-1) found the back of the net in the 86th minute to level the match.
Louisville dominated the first half, maintaining most of the possession and creating numerous chances in the attacking third. The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when Emersen Jennings made a dangerous run and delivered a cross into the box. Contini outpaced two New Hampshire defenders to flick the ball past the goalkeeper, marking her first career goal and giving the Cards a 1-0 lead. Jennings earned her first assist of the season on the play.
The Cardinals took their 1-0 lead into halftime, having outshot New Hampshire 9-0 in the first 45 minutes. It was the third consecutive game in which Louisville did not allow a shot on goal in the first half.
In the second half, Louisville continued to press for an insurance goal but was unable to convert its opportunities. This missed chance proved costly as Delaney Lappin capitalized on a heavy touch in the 86th minute to equalize for New Hampshire. Despite pushing forward after the tying goal, Louisville was unable to find a late winner, and the match ended in a draw.
Next, the Cardinals will embark on their first road trip of the season as they head to Northern Kentucky to face the Norse. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on Sunday and will be streamed on ESPN+.
