Kentucky pitcher Robert Hogan announced on Thursday his decision to return for his final season of eligibility in 2025, citing his deep love for the school and the support from the Big Blue Nation. Hogan joins catcher Devin Burkes in committing to another season, strengthening the Wildcats’ roster for the upcoming year.
Hogan, a native of North Oaks, Minnesota, played a pivotal role in UK’s historic run to its first-ever College World Series in 2024. As a key member of the Wildcats’ pitching staff, Hogan excelled in high-pressure situations, helping the team secure a Southeastern Conference crown and achieve a perfect 5-0 record in the NCAA Regional and Super Regional.
Throughout the 2024 season, Hogan posted impressive stats, going 1-0 with a 3.10 ERA over 40.2 innings in 24 appearances. Opponents struggled against him, hitting just .174, while Hogan struck out more than a batter per inning.
Hogan’s dominance was particularly evident in the SEC Tournament and the initial rounds of the NCAA Tournament, where he allowed no runs in 8.2 innings, giving up just three hits against LSU, Western Michigan, and Oregon State. His effective breaking ball earned him the nickname “Bobby Spins,” and he showcased his skill by striking out Travis Bazzana, the eventual top overall draft pick, in the Super Regional clincher against the Beavers.
Hogan’s return, along with Burkes, promises to bolster Kentucky’s bid for continued success in the 2025 season, as the Wildcats aim to build on their remarkable achievements from 2024.
