The Murray State women’s golf team continues to excel academically, earning six individual All-American Scholars for the 13th consecutive year, as announced by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) from their home office in Coral Springs, Florida.
In the 2023-24 school year, the honored student-athletes include Payton Carter (Henderson, Kentucky), Eliza Mae Kho (Miri, Malaysia), Patti Patterson (Tallahassee, Fla.), Ella Scherer (Vine Grove, Ky.), Emily Shimkus (Cave Creek, Arizona), and McKenna Stahl (Bowling Green, Ky.).
“The work our team is doing in the classroom is high-level, and our 3.55 GPA is something we can all be proud of,” said MSU Head Coach Philip Nelson. “We are looking forward to the 2024-25 season as we aim for great performances on the course and in the classroom.”
More than 1,400 student-athletes were honored across all levels of women’s collegiate golf by the WGCA. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are among the most stringent in all of college athletics, requiring a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
The Murray State women’s golf program has now produced 72 WGCA All-America Scholars selections since 1998, with multiple selections in each of the last 13 years. This achievement underscores the program’s commitment to academic excellence, alongside their athletic pursuits.
The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, represents over 600 coaches throughout the nation.
