Kentucky State’s Keon Henderson brought his A-game to the seventh annual National Basketball Players Association HBCU Top 50 Camp, held from July 31 to August 2 at Morehouse College in Atlanta. This premier event, modeled after the NBPA’s renowned Top 100 Camp, is all about elevating the best HBCU basketball talent, and Henderson proved he belonged among the elite.
Over two and a half intense days, the camp delivered a full-court press of high-level basketball drills, competitive scrimmages, and combine-style evaluations. But it wasn’t just about buckets—Henderson and his fellow athletes dove into leadership workshops, mental wellness sessions, and career development training, all guided by current and former NBA players, certified mental health professionals, and industry heavyweights. The goal? To sharpen skills on the court while building the mindset and tools needed for success off it.
A Detroit native, Henderson has been a key piece for the Kentucky State Thorobreds. In the 2024-25 season, he logged over 720 minutes, dishing out 91 assists, swiping 30 steals, and grabbing 63 rebounds while averaging 4.1 points per game. His standout performance came on Dec. 16, 2024, against Clark Atlanta, where he erupted for a season-high 17 points, hitting seven field goals and sinking seven free throws. That kind of versatility and clutch play is exactly what made him a perfect fit for the NBPA’s showcase.
With NBA veterans and coaches like Morehouse’s own Harold Ellis class of 92 mentoring the group, Henderson got a front-row seat to world-class instruction and a chance to show he can hang with the best. The NBPA HBCU Top 50 Camp is more than a basketball event—it’s a launchpad for the next generation of HBCU stars, and Henderson’s performance put him squarely in the spotlight. Keep an eye on this Thorobred, because he’s got the skills and the drive to take his game to the next level.
