Breaunna Addison, a decorated collegiate and prep tennis player with extensive coaching experience, has joined the University of Louisville women’s tennis coaching staff. Head coach Mark Beckham expressed his excitement about Addison’s addition to the program.
“I feel extremely fortunate and excited to have Breaunna join our program,” said Beckham. “She covers all the bases as far as experience, whether it being a former assistant coach, associate head coach or head coach, she has done it all. I need a partner in guiding the players on the team. She will not be working for me but it will be us working together to lead the team, and she is very excited about the opportunity.”
Addison brings seven years of NCAA Division I coaching experience from three institutions, most recently serving as the head coach at Drake University. At Drake, she led the women’s tennis program and coached Ines Stephani, who was named the MVC Player of the Year, and Mille Haagensen, who earned All-Conference first team honors in the number two singles spot.
“She has a lot of experience coaching and really knows the game, but she’s also going to bring on-court playing experience,” Beckham added. “I would hope all the players on the team would want to accomplish what she has as a player. Her playing resume is impressive. I believe it’s very beneficial to have a good grasp on what players are going through on the court because you have actually played at a high level, and Breaunna has definitely done that. She will be able to bring real experience to help improve every player on the team.”
During her time at Drake, Stephani compiled a singles record of 15-3 in 2024, competing in the number one singles spot for the Bulldogs, and won three MVC Player of the Week awards. Haagensen led the Bulldogs in singles wins in 2024 with a 16-4 record and went 8-0 in conference singles play.
Prior to her stint at Drake, Addison was the associate head tennis coach at Howard University, where she led the Bison women’s program to a 10-5 overall record and an undefeated 6-0 mark in MEAC competition during the 2021-22 season. She also assisted in coaching the Bison’s men’s program.
Addison also spent three seasons as an assistant tennis coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she helped the RedHawks capture the 2018-19 Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament crowns, securing their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
Before Miami, Addison coached at LAT Tennis Academy in Boynton Beach, Florida, serving as a high-performance coach. She began her coaching career after a stellar playing career at the University of Texas at Austin (2013-16). At Texas, she was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams and a Big 12 Conference championship team. Individually, Addison reached the 2013 NCAA Singles Semifinals and earned multiple honors, including All-American recognition (2013-16), Big 12 Player of the Year (2014 & 2016), Big 12 Freshman of the Year (2013), Big 12 Tournament Most Valuable Player (2013), and an NCAA Elite 89 nomination.
As a prep player, Addison was a former top-ranked player in both Girls 12 and 14 divisions, won three International Tennis Federation Junior Titles, and reached an international ranking as high as 139th in the world.
Addison completed her undergraduate studies at Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. She also earned her Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health with a concentration in Sports Psychology while at Miami of Ohio.
With her deep knowledge of tennis and rich history as both a player and coach, Addison is poised to make a significant impact on the University of Louisville women’s tennis program.
