The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team has once again proven its excellence both on and off the court, earning the prestigious American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2023-24 academic year, sponsored by INTENT.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, established in the 1992-93 season, requires teams to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. The Colonels surpassed this benchmark with an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.579. Six student-athletes achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs for the entire year, underscoring the team’s commitment to academic excellence.

“I’m proud of this group of student-athletes,” said EKU Head Coach Johnna Bazzani. “As a program, we hold ourselves to a student-first mentality and these girls continue to do it every day!”

On the court, the Colonels had an outstanding season, finishing with a 21-9 record and earning a spot in the 2023 National Invitational Volleyball Championship. Coach Bazzani was named Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year after leading the team to an 11-5 conference record and a third-place finish in the league. The Colonels also enjoyed a 13-match winning streak, tying the longest in program history.

With this recognition, EKU volleyball continues to set a high standard for academic and athletic achievement.
