The Louisville women’s golf squad came out swinging in their fall opener, and they’ve put themselves in a prime spot heading into the final round. After two rounds at the Sam Golden Invitational on Monday at Oakmont Country Club, the Cards sit in second place overall at 18-under-par, with three players repping in the top ten.

The duo of Thienna Huynh and Veronika Exposito were steady all day, both locking in at 6-under-par 138 through the first 36 holes. That’s good enough to have them tied for fifth on the leaderboard.

Exposito kept it smooth and consistent, posting back-to-back rounds of 69. She stacked up four birdies in each round to hold her spot near the top.

Huynh came out firing in round one, setting a new career-best with a 5-under 67. She carded three birdies, an eagle, and didn’t let a single bogey hit her scorecard. She followed that up with a 71 in the second round, dropping in four more birdies to stay in the hunt.

True freshman Madison Moman wasted no time making noise in her collegiate debut. She matched Exposito with a 69 in the first round and dropped four birdies along the way. In round two, she added a 70 to finish the day at 5-under 137, sitting just one stroke behind the team leaders and tied for eighth overall.

Bailey Burkett came out hot with four birdies on her first nine holes of the tourney. She finished the opener at even-par 72, then followed with a 71 in round two. Her 1-under 143 has her tied for 35th.

Millie Cottrell rounded things out for the Cards. She shook off a tough 77 in round one to bounce back with an even-par 72 in round two, highlighted by four birdies. She’ll head into the final round tied for 63rd at 5-over 149.

Louisville closes out the Sam Golden Invitational on Tuesday looking to make a run at the top spot.
