Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball head coach A.W. Hamilton is set to shine as the grand marshal for the second annual NEON Night Run/Walk, a vibrant Paint the Town Pink event, on October 3 in Richmond. The Colonels’ sideline general will kick off a night of community spirit and cancer awareness, bringing his high-energy leadership to a cause that’s been a Madison County staple since 2009.

Paint the Town Pink, a campaign dedicated to boosting cancer awareness, prevention, and treatment, has raised over $150,000 for local initiatives since its inception. This year’s NEON Night Run/Walk, a collaboration between Baptist Health Richmond, the City of Richmond, and EKU, promises to light up downtown Richmond with participants decked out in neon, racing under the night sky. The 8 p.m. start on Water Street will see runners and walkers weaving through the city, chasing not just personal bests but a brighter future for cancer care.

The event isn’t just about the race. From 7-10 p.m., the Mill District’s Water Street area will host a block party, inviting the community to join the celebration. Awards will go to the top three male and female finishers, and for a $35 entry fee, participants can make their mark. Register by September 19, and you’ll snag a special race event shirt to commemorate the night.

Hamilton’s role as grand marshal underscores the event’s blend of athletic grit and community heart, a perfect reflection of Richmond’s fight against cancer. Get ready to glow, run, and rally for a cause that hits home.
