Kentucky guard Koby Brea has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Player of the Week following his standout performance in the Wildcats’ thrilling upset of No. 6 Florida to open league play. Brea delivered a career-high 23 points, including a career-best seven 3-pointers, as Kentucky outlasted the Gators 106-100. This marked the Wildcats’ third victory over an Associated Press Top 10 opponent this season.
Brea’s seven 3-pointers were historic, tying for the second-most ever by a Kentucky player against Florida in the rivalry’s history and against a top-10 opponent in program history. The Washington Heights, New York, native has been a model of consistency from beyond the arc this season, connecting on at least one three-pointer in every game. He has recorded multiple 3-pointers in 12 of the team’s 14 contests and currently leads the nation in 3-point shooting, hitting an incredible 52.3% from distance.
Kentucky’s impressive win over Florida reinforced their dominance against top-tier opponents. UK is the only program in the nation with three victories over top-10 teams this season, and they remain unbeaten (5-0) in matchups where both Kentucky and Florida are ranked in the top 10. The Wildcats’ 106 points were the second-most scored against Florida in series history and the highest since 1970.
In two games last week, Brea averaged a team-leading 18.0 points per game while shooting a remarkable 60% from the field. His efforts earned him Kentucky’s third SEC weekly honor this season. Andrew Carr previously received the award after UK’s dramatic comeback win over Duke, while Lamont Butler was recognized for his 33-point performance in the Wildcats’ victory over Louisville.
Kentucky will look to build on their momentum as they hit the road to face Georgia on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with coverage on SEC Network. With Brea’s hot hand and the Wildcats’ confidence soaring, fans can expect another exciting contest as SEC play heats up.
