The fourth-seeded Kentucky men’s soccer team (6-5-6, 5-2-3 Sun Belt) advanced to the Sun Belt Conference semifinals with a 1-0 victory over fifth-seeded South Carolina (10-5-2, 5-5 Sun Belt) on Sunday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, W.Va.
The match’s only goal came from Logan Dorsey, who converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute to give Kentucky the win. Dorsey’s goal was his 13th of the season and his fifth game-winner, tying him for the conference lead in that category.
Kentucky’s goalkeeper Casper Mols played a key role in the victory, saving a South Carolina penalty kick attempt in the 20th minute, keeping the Gamecocks off the scoreboard. Mols’ clean sheet marked his second of the season, and his fourth win improved his season record to 4-3-3.
The Wildcats dominated the match, outshooting South Carolina 11-5 and earning 14 corner kicks to the Gamecocks’ 4. Kentucky also led 5-2 in shots on goal. The win improves Kentucky’s all-time series record against South Carolina to 13-8-4, with the teams first meeting in 1991. In the 2024 regular season, Kentucky defeated South Carolina 2-0 on the road.
Kentucky now moves on to face top-seeded West Virginia in the Sun Belt Conference semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m. EST.
