The Lady Topper Golf team is gearing up to launch their 2024-25 fall season on Monday morning in West Lafayette, Indiana. The team will compete in the Boilermaker Classic, hosted by Purdue, facing a formidable field that includes Michigan, Notre Dame, Indiana, and Alabama.
Tournament Information:
- Monday: 36 holes, starting at 9:00 A.M. (Shotgun start)
- Tuesday: 18 holes, time TBD (Shotgun start)
- Live Scoring Available
The tournament will be played on the familiar par-72, 6,411-yard Kampen Course. Leading the way for WKU is senior Catie Craig, coming off a historic junior season on The Hill. Craig had a busy summer, winning the 122nd Women’s North and South Amateur Championship and competing in the U.S. Amateur Tournament for the second consecutive year. She returns to the Boilermaker Classic after tying for ninth in last year’s event.
Junior Sydney Hackett is also on the card, ready to step further into a leadership role this season. Hackett notched four top-20 finishes last year, including two in the top-10, and competed in notable tournaments over the summer, such as the Sea Island Amateur.
Another key player for the Red and White is junior Averi Cline, who also recorded four top-20 finishes last season. Cline ended her 2023-24 campaign with a 74.8 stroke average and is poised for another strong year after a productive summer.
Adding more experience to the lineup is junior Nina McMurtrey, who is set to take on a bigger role this season. McMurtrey played in six rounds last year, including being part of the lineup when the Lady Tops dominated the Jennifer Duke Invitational in Cincinnati. This will be her first appearance at the Boilermaker Classic.
Freshman Kaylee Dwyer rounds out the Lady Topper lineup. Dwyer, a four-time Illinois State qualifier and three-time IHSA regional champion, is one of three new signees for Coach Gary’s team this year. The Illinois native is set for a strong debut in West Lafayette.
Competing as an individual is another new face, Julia Zigrossi. The James Madison transfer will make her season debut as an individual in West Lafayette after a freshman campaign that saw her play 17 rounds with a stroke average of 76.88.
Head Coach Adam Gary expressed his excitement for the start of the season, stating, “I’m excited to start this season this week. The team played great in qualifying, and the newcomers are gaining some valuable experience daily.” He added, “Also having some returners that played this course last year will really help.”
The two-day tournament will begin with the first 18-hole round on Monday morning, with a 9:00 A.M. tee time.
