WKU Volleyball took the Marquette Golden Eagles to five sets on Friday morning and put up a solid fight against the University of Dayton, but ultimately could not secure a win against either team.
How It Happened
Marquette: 25-19, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22, 15-10
The Hilltoppers (4-4 overall) displayed strong defense with a three-block edge over the Golden Eagles (2-3 overall), totaling 13 blocks to Marquette’s 10. However, timely swings from Marquette made the difference in the end.
Both teams alternated with the better hitting percentage in the first three sets, but Marquette outpaced WKU in the final two sets, hitting .253 compared to WKU’s .196, to take the win.
Senior outside hitter Kaylee Coyle set a season-high with 19 kills, while sophomore middle hitter Izzy Van De Wiele added 17 kills and eight blocks. Redshirt junior setter Callie Bauer notched her first 50-assist match of the season and led the team with 18 blocks.
#24 Dayton: 20-25, 21-25, 20-25
In their third match against a ranked opponent this season, WKU was outdone by Dayton at the net. The Flyers had a superior hitting percentage of .337 compared to WKU’s .188 and led in blocks, nine to six.
Junior defensive specialist Callahan Wiegandt led the team in service aces, while Kaylee Cox and senior rightside Kenadee Coyle paced the Hilltoppers in kills with eight each.
