Kentucky State football head coach Felton Huggins Jr. underscored the value of live game experience as the Thorobreds completed their final scrimmage before the start of the season. The scrimmage served as a critical opportunity for the team to fine-tune their skills in a controlled environment.
“Any time we get the opportunity to scrimmage, it’s an opportunity for our guys to get live game action within a controlled setting,” Huggins said. “It’s about getting time with the quarterbacks and receivers, while the defensive line gets an opportunity to come out.”
Huggins also praised the leadership and contributions of key players like Markell Cotton, Denim Johnson, Mark Flores, and Kerwin Williams Jr., emphasizing their roles in the team’s preparation.
“It’s an opportunity to show their leadership within the program,” Huggins added. “For us, it’s about getting the guys some repetitions and getting the young guys who have never been in this situation acclimated to what they are going to see next week because we have the number fourteen team in the nation coming through.”
As the season opener against Virginia Union on August 31 approaches, Kentucky State remains focused on refining its strategies and ensuring the team is prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
