Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team is set to face East Tennessee State University on November 8 as part of the 20-game ASUN/SoCon men’s basketball scheduling alliance. The Atlantic Sun Conference announced the match-up from its Atlanta headquarters today, with the game time to be determined later.
This scheduling alliance, spanning two seasons, features match-ups between the ASUN and Southern Conference teams during November and December. This season, eight ASUN teams will each play one home game and one road game as part of the alliance, while two programs will play one road game each, and two will host one home contest. The 10 Southern Conference teams will similarly play one home game and one road game.
East Tennessee State University, which finished last season with a 19-16 record and an 8-10 mark in the SoCon, had an impressive run in the conference tournament. The Buccaneers won three tournament games, defeating the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, UNC Greensboro and Chattanooga, before falling to No. 1 seed Samford in the championship game.
Eastern Kentucky University clinched the 2023-24 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Championship, marking the program’s first regular season conference title in 45 years. Head coach A.W. Hamilton was honored as the ASUN Coach of the Year and the NABC District III Coach of the Year, becoming the first coach in EKU history to receive the conference coach of the year award twice.
The match-up against ETSU promises to be a thrilling start to the season for EKU, as they look to build on their historic success and defend their ASUN title.
