Western Kentucky University kicker Lucas Carneiro has been recognized as a semifinalist for the 2024 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. Carneiro is one of just 20 semifinalists nationwide and the sole representative from Conference USA on the prestigious list.
The redshirt sophomore from Cornelius, North Carolina, has delivered an exceptional season for the Hilltoppers. Carneiro has converted 11 of 12 field goal attempts and remains perfect on 35 extra point tries. His current streak of 11 consecutive field goals ties a program record. Notably, Carneiro has made all three of his attempts from beyond 50 yards, including a 54-yarder, tied for the second-longest in WKU history.

The ultimate winner will be revealed live on ESPN during the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12.
About the Lou Groza Award
The award honors NFL Hall of Famer Lou “The Toe” Groza, a 21-season veteran with the Cleveland Browns. Known for redefining the kicker’s role in football, Groza won four NFL championships and earned NFL Player of the Year honors in 1954. Since its inception in 1992, the Lou Groza Award has seen 32 finalists, including 17 winners, advance to the NFL, amassing 13 Pro Bowl appearances and seven Super Bowl victories.
Looking Ahead
Carneiro and the Hilltoppers will close out the regular season with a road game against Liberty on Saturday, November 23. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. Carneiro’s consistency and ability to deliver under pressure will undoubtedly play a key role as WKU looks to end the season strong.
