The Kentucky State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host a home football game against Shorter on Thursday, November 14, at Alumni Stadium. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. and is free to attend. As part of the event, KSU is encouraging attendees to bring canned goods, clothing, and other essential items for a food, clothing, and supply drive to benefit the University’s Bred Basket.

The Bred Basket provides vital resources, including food and necessities, to students in need. “Playing with purpose to support KSU’s Bred Basket prepares our students for making meaningful contributions to society,” said Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo, KSU President. “KSU is ready to tackle hunger and supply those in need with vital resources to propel them onward and upward.”

Supporting Student Wellness

The Bred Basket reflects Kentucky State University’s dedication to supporting the holistic wellness of its students. Food insecurity is a pressing issue that affects students’ health, well-being, and academic success. Many KSU students struggle to access nutritious meals due to financial constraints, balancing work and studies, and the limited availability of affordable options.

The University is addressing these challenges by increasing access to nutritious meals, expanding education and awareness on food insecurity, supporting financial assistance programs, and empowering student-led initiatives. Through these efforts, KSU ensures that students receive the nourishment they need to remain healthy, focused, and resilient in their academic pursuits.

This commitment to food security underscores Kentucky State University’s dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
