WKU rebounded from a season-opening loss to Austin Peay with a dominant 4-0 victory over Union (Tenn.) on Thursday night. Senior Kayla Meyer led the charge with two goals, while graduate student Olivia Cooke and sophomore Rebecca Roth each added one. Goalkeeper Maddie Davis recorded three saves, securing the ninth shutout of her career.

The Hilltoppers bring back 17 players from the 2023 season and have added two transfers and seven freshmen. Key returners include starting goalkeeper Maddie Davis, second-leading scorer Kayla Meyer, and defensive starters Aspen Seaich, Kendall Wade, and Lily Rummo.

WKU was picked to finish third in the preseason Conference USA coaches poll, with Liberty and New Mexico State projected to finish first and second, respectively. Last season, WKU finished third in Conference USA with a 4-2-2 conference record and a 6-5-7 overall record. The seven ties were a school and CUSA record.

Series Information

WKU holds an 8-1-2 all-time record against Evansville, including a 4-1-0 record in Bowling Green. The two teams last met on Sept. 7, 2023, in Evansville, resulting in a 0-0 draw. Their last matchup in Bowling Green was on Sept. 3, 2017, with the Hilltoppers winning 4-1.

Scouting the Purple Aces

Evansville opened the 2024 season with a 0-0 tie against Lipscomb on Aug. 15. Goalkeeper Myia Danek recorded the shutout with four saves.

Last season, Evansville finished 1-7-9 overall, including a 1-3-6 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. Junior forward Chrysta Vasquez was the team’s leading goal scorer with two goals.
