Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, secured her place in Thursday’s 400m hurdles final by winning her semifinal heat at the Olympic Games on Tuesday. Competing at the Stade de France, McLaughlin-Levrone, the fastest woman in history in the 400-meter hurdles, posted the top qualifying time of 52.13 across three semifinal heats. She will race again on Thursday, August 8, in the Olympic final at 3:25 ET, with coverage available on NBC and Peacock.
During her time at Kentucky in the 2018 season, McLaughlin-Levrone claimed both SEC and NCAA titles in the 400m hurdles, setting the current collegiate record. A three-time Olympian, she made her debut in Rio in 2016, reaching the semifinal in the 400m hurdles. At the Tokyo 2020 Games, she won gold medals in both the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay.
On Wednesday, five Kentucky Track and Field athletes will compete, including Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Masai Russell, and Devynne Charlton (Volunteer Assistant Coach/Purdue Alum) making their Paris 2024 debut in the 100m hurdles at 4:15 a.m. ET. Following a session break, Daniel Roberts and Alexis Holmes will race in their respective semifinal rounds. Roberts aims to reach his first Olympic final in the 110m hurdles at 1:05 p.m. ET, while first-time Olympian Alexis Holmes will attempt to secure her place in the 400m final at 2:45 p.m. ET.
