Following a five-game homestand, the Kentucky State Thorobreds (4-4, 2-3 SIAC) hit the road for a crucial conference showdown against the Morehouse Maroon Tigers on Saturday, Dec. 14. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. inside Forbes Arena in Atlanta.

Thorobreds Seek Redemption After Tough Loss
Kentucky State is looking to bounce back from a difficult 80-48 defeat to Albany State on Dec. 7. Despite the setback, Lavar Miller Jr. led the Thorobreds with 12 points and three steals in the loss, showing flashes of leadership in a challenging matchup.

Blackwell’s Hot Streak Garners Recognition
Aziel Blackwell has been a bright spot for Kentucky State, earning SIAC Player of the Week honors on Dec. 10. Blackwell delivered a career-high 33 points in the Dec. 2 victory over Edward Waters, including a flawless 14-for-14 performance at the free-throw line.

He maintained his offensive rhythm with a 20-point effort against Tuskegee on Dec. 4, shooting over 70% from the line (11-of-15). Against Albany State, Blackwell added seven points, including a 5-for-6 showing at the charity stripe. His consistency at the free-throw line has been a key asset for the Thorobreds this season.

Morehouse Looks for Conference Spark
The Maroon Tigers (2-5) will play their first SIAC contest of the season when they host Kentucky State. Morehouse is coming off a 77-63 loss to Florida Southern on Nov. 30 and will look to rebound on their home court.

Recent History Favors Morehouse, but Momentum Shifts
Morehouse holds a 9-7 edge in the series since 2011. However, Kentucky State snapped a five-game losing streak to the Maroon Tigers in their last meeting, an 85-79 victory on Jan. 4, 2024.

As the Thorobreds look to find consistency on the road, Saturday’s matchup could be pivotal in setting the tone for the rest of their conference schedule.
