Thomas More University Saints football head Coach Chris Norwell talks about his playing days at Illinois, NFL experience and coaching Thomas More. Interview by the legendary James Ernest!

Chris Norwell is entering his 16th season with Thomas More University and his third as head football coach for the 2024-2025 season. In his second season, the Saints went 5-6 overall and 4-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) as they transitioned to NCAA Division II. Norwell’s tenure has seen notable achievements, including the team’s first Division II and G-MAC wins. Prior to becoming head coach, Norwell served as defensive coordinator, contributing to 7 conference championships and 5 NCAA playoff appearances. His defenses frequently ranked highly at the national level. Throughout his career at Thomas More, Norwell has coached 2 All Americans, 55 All Conference selections, and two PAC Players of the Year. A former player for the University of Illinois, where he set the school record for career starts by a defensive lineman, Norwell was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in 2007 and briefly signed as an undrafted free agent with NFL teams. The Cincinnati native now resides with his wife Quincey and their four children.
