The University of Louisville women’s tennis team wrapped up a strong start to their season at the Miami Invitational, securing 15 singles victories and six doubles wins over the weekend.
Competing in a hidden dual format against Xavier, Middle Tennessee, and Miami of Ohio, the Cardinals split singles matches with Xavier on Friday, each team winning three. In doubles play against Middle Tennessee, Louisville claimed two out of three matches.
On Saturday, the Cardinals swept Miami of Ohio in singles and followed it up by taking two out of three doubles matches against Xavier.
Louisville closed out the invitational in dominant fashion on Sunday, sweeping singles matches against Middle Tennessee and picking up two doubles victories against Miami of Ohio.
Junior transfer Alice Otis made a stellar debut for Louisville, going undefeated in her three singles matches. She started with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Xavier’s Abby Nugent at the No. 1 spot on Friday, followed by a three-set victory over Miami of Ohio’s Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek on Saturday, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Otis capped the weekend with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Alessia Truden of Middle Tennessee on Sunday.
Lika Persypkina and Elena Noguero also remained unbeaten in singles, each winning three matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
In doubles, two Louisville pairings were undefeated. Otis and Elisabeth Iila notched two wins at the No. 1 spot and one victory at the No. 2 position. Persypkina teamed up with Berta Miret for two victories at the No. 2 spot, beating duos from Xavier and Miami of Ohio, both by 8-5 margins.
Louisville will continue their fall season at the West Virginia Invite in Morgantown from October 4-6.
