WKU women’s basketball junior guard Acacia Hayes has been named the Conference USA Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. This marks the fourth weekly honor of Hayes’ career from CUSA and her second time earning the Player of the Week accolade.
Hayes Leads the Lady Toppers to a Perfect Start
A native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Hayes has been instrumental in guiding the Lady Toppers to a 5-0 start this season, a milestone achieved by only six teams in WKU history. Last week, she showcased her offensive prowess, leading all scorers with 21 points in a victory over North Dakota on Sunday and adding 14 points in a road win against Abilene Christian earlier in the week.
Hayes shot an impressive 50.0% from the field (11-22) and connected on 6 of 14 three-point attempts across the two games. Defensively, she contributed 3.5 steals per game, including five steals against Abilene Christian.
Season Stats and National Rankings
Hayes is off to a stellar start this season, averaging 15.8 points per game, the highest on the team. She also leads Conference USA and ranks fourth nationally with 4.2 steals per game. Her shooting efficiency has been remarkable, hitting 60.0% of her shots from the field, a mark that tops CUSA and ranks 33rd in the nation.
Team’s Unbeaten Streak
The Lady Toppers’ perfect 5-0 record places them among just 42 unbeaten teams in the country. With Hayes leading the charge, WKU has its sights set on extending this streak as they continue their three-game homestand.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Toppers will host Tennessee State on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 4 p.m. in Diddle Arena as they look to build on their early-season success and maintain their unbeaten record. Fans can expect Hayes to continue playing a pivotal role on both ends of the court as WKU aims for another dominant performance.
