EKU Colonels football continues to shine on the national stage as wide receiver Marcus Calwise Jr. and offensive lineman Tyrell Green have been named to the prestigious FCS Football Central Freshman All-American Team. The dynamic duo is part of a select group of 69 standout freshmen representing 52 programs across the subdivision, underscoring their stellar debut seasons in 2024.

Calwise, a Georgia native, emerged as one of the top five freshman wide receivers in the country, earning the distinction after a breakout campaign in Maroon and White. The United Athletic Conference took notice early, naming him Freshman of the Week three times during the season. Leading the Colonels with 526 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 42 catches, Calwise’s impact was undeniable.

His late-season surge was nothing short of remarkable, scoring in each of EKU’s final four games, including a thrilling 67-yard game-winning touchdown against North Alabama. That performance, which sealed the Colonels’ undefeated record at Roy Kidd Stadium, was a season highlight. Calwise racked up a career-high 99 receiving yards in that game, earning his second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor.

In the trenches, Tyrell Green anchored EKU’s offensive line with poise beyond his years. The Toledo, Ohio native appeared in all 13 games, starting the final 10, and was the only freshman offensive lineman selected from the United Athletic Conference. Green’s efforts were instrumental in EKU’s offensive success, helping the team rack up 2,422 rushing yards—the third-most in the conference—and 4,522 yards of total offense.

Together, Calwise and Green have set the foundation for EKU’s bright future, earning well-deserved spots on the third annual FCS Football Central Freshman All-American Team. Their contributions this season are a testament to the talent and determination fueling the Colonels’ success.
