EKU Volleyball’s Schmitendorf & Mitchell Earn ASUN Weekly Honors

Eastern Kentucky University seniors Josie Schmitendorf and Sarah Mitchell were recognized by the Atlantic Sun Conference on Monday for their exceptional performances during last week’s victories. Schmitendorf was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week, while Mitchell was honored as ASUN Player of the Week.

Schmitendorf helped lead EKU (19-8, 10-4 ASUN) to wins over Bellarmine (3-1) and Stetson (3-1), marking her fourth Defensive Player of the Week award this season. In those two matches, the libero from Huntley, Illinois averaged 5.25 digs per set, recording a total of 42 digs. She also added 2.00 assists per set, including a match-high 27 digs in the win over Stetson. Schmitendorf currently ranks third in the ASUN and 39th nationally with 4.76 digs per set.

Mitchell, from Berea, Kentucky, earned her first ASUN Player of the Week award this season. She averaged 4.88 kills, 2.50 digs, and 0.63 aces per set, hitting an impressive .362 for the week. Mitchell posted 39 kills, 20 digs, and five aces across two matches, including a career-high 26 kills at Stetson. She also recorded 15 digs and three aces in the win over Bellarmine.

EKU will close out the regular season at home this weekend, hosting Central Arkansas at 6 p.m. on Friday and North Alabama at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Friday’s match will feature a coffee bar and an iced coffee cup giveaway, while Saturday will be Senior Day.
