The Kentucky State men’s golf team claimed victory at the University of Pikeville Fall Invite, finishing with a dominant 15-under team score over two days at the StoneCrest Golf Course. The Thorobreds completed a sweep of the individual podium, with Max Dufey winning the tournament outright, followed by Micah Stangebye in second and Robert Johnson in third.
A second-round team score of 10-under solidified Kentucky State’s 13-stroke win over host Pikeville. The Thorobreds also outpaced nearby Georgetown by 26 strokes, with Georgetown finishing fourth at 11-over.
Dufey led the way, finishing with a career-low 10-under across three rounds. His best performance came in the second round, where he notched seven birdies and a 67 (-4). He added 3-under 69s in both the first and third rounds to secure the individual title with a total score of 206.
Stangebye also delivered a strong showing, carding a 69 (-3) in the first round and following up with consecutive 70s (-2) in rounds two and three. His 7-under total of 209 marked his best finish of the fall season, earning him second place.
Robert Johnson improved his score with each round, posting a 71 (-1) in the first, a 70 (-2) in the second, and a 69 (-3) in the final round. His consistent play led to a 6-under total of 210, securing third place.
Other Thorobreds contributing to the team’s success included Cadyn Sava, who finished 10-over but shot a solid 2-under (69) in the final round to place 20th, and Demar James, who finished 17-over with his best round coming in at 73 (+1) in the second.
Kentucky State will aim to continue its momentum at the Kyle Ryman Invitational in Tiffin, Ohio, on October 7-8.
