The Louisville women’s soccer team maintained their unbeaten streak with a 1-1 draw on the road against Cincinnati (2-1-1) Thursday night at Gettler Stadium. The Cardinals (3-0-2) have now gone unbeaten through the first five matches of the season, marking the first time they’ve achieved this feat since the 2019 campaign.

The match began slowly for the Cardinals, with their first real chance coming in the 15th minute. Betsy Huckaby sent a well-timed pass to Mackenzie Geigle, who managed to beat the Bearcats’ defense and the goalkeeper, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside call. Geigle continued to pressure the Cincinnati defense and recorded Louisville’s first shot in the 19th minute, a long-range attempt that was saved by the Bearcats’ keeper.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock in the first half, with Cincinnati holding a slight edge in shots, 5-3, though none tested Louisville goalkeeper Erynn Floyd. Notably, the Cardinals have yet to allow a shot on goal in the first half across all five of their games this season.

Early in the second half, Cincinnati had a promising opportunity when Ellie Flower sprinted down the right flank, but Karsyn Cherry made a crucial tackle to deflect the shot out of play. Shortly after, Cherry contributed on the offensive side as well, heading in a cross from Brooke Dardano off a corner kick in the 53rd minute. This marked Cherry’s third goal of the season, all coming from set pieces, and Dardano’s team-leading fifth assist.

Cincinnati found an equalizer in the 65th minute when Rylee Felton capitalized on a rebound after the initial shot was blocked, leveling the score at 1-1. The remainder of the match saw little action in front of either goal, with both teams settling for the draw after 90 minutes.

Louisville will now return home to start a three-game homestand, beginning with a match against Evansville on Sunday, September 1, at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
