Tops Softball snag Bluegrass speedster: Blanton bolts from UK to WKU

Western Kentucky softball just hit the transfer portal jackpot. Head coach Amy Tudor announced Tuesday that Kentucky outfielder Jenna Blanton is trading Lexington blue for Hilltopper red.

“We’ve landed ourselves a game-changer,” Tudor told the Courier Journal. “Jenna’s got wheels that’ll make Conference USA pitchers dizzy and an arm that’ll have runners thinking twice about taking that extra base.”

Blanton brings big-time SEC experience to Bowling Green, having suited up 109 times for the Wildcats over the past two seasons. The Chapel Hill, Tenn. native racked up 44 hits and 30 runs in that span, proving she can hang with the best in college softball.

But it’s not just her bat that has Tudor excited. Blanton’s a defensive wizard in the outfield, with the kind of range that turns doubles into outs. And on the basepaths? She’s a blur waiting to happen.

Before her Kentucky stint, Blanton was lighting up Minnesota high school softball. We’re talking first-team all-state nods, Gatorade Player of the Year nominations, and a junior year stat line that reads like a video game cheat code – 0.61 ERA, five no-hitters, and a .449 batting average.

As WKU gears up for another run at C-USA glory, Blanton’s addition could be the spark that ignites a championship flame. The rest of the conference might want to take notice – there’s a new speedster on The Hill, and she’s ready to run circles around the competition.
