WKU Football kicker Lucas Carneiro has been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week following his stellar performance in the Hilltoppers’ 41-28 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Carneiro was perfect in the game, going 2-for-2 on field goals and 5-for-5 on extra points. His field goals came from 42 yards and 53 yards, with the 42-yard kick coming as time expired in the first half to give WKU a 24-7 lead. His 53-yard field goal in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Hilltoppers, helping them improve to 5-0 in CUSA play and 7-2 overall.

With his two field goals, Carneiro extended his streak of made field goals to 11, tying the program record. The 53-yard kick was tied for the fourth-longest field goal in WKU history and marked his third successful 50-plus yard attempt of the season. Carneiro is now 11-for-12 on field goals and a perfect 34-for-34 on extra points.

This marks the second time Carneiro has earned the CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week award this season, previously being honored on Oct. 14. He was also named the CUSA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year. Carneiro’s recognition contributes to WKU’s total of six weekly awards this season, including previous honors for punter Cole Maynard, defensive back Devonte’ Mathews, and quarterback Caden Veltkamp.

WKU will return home for their homecoming game against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Nov. 16, with kickoff at 11 a.m. CT at Houchens-Smith Stadium. The game will be televised on CBSSN.
