Eastern Kentucky University middle blocker Paige Wagers has been recognized as the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement, made today from the league’s headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, highlights Wagers’ impressive performance throughout the Geri Polvino Invitational.
Wagers’ Dominant Performance
Wagers, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, showcased her defensive prowess with an average of 2.18 blocks per set across three EKU victories. Her contributions were pivotal in leading EKU to the tournament championship. Over the course of 11 sets, she recorded 24 total blocks, along with 1.27 kills per set and three digs.
The 6-foot senior, who previously played at Henry Clay High School, had standout performances in several matches:
- In a win against Morehead State, she recorded a match-best 11 total blocks and three kills.
- In a victory over Radford, she tied for the match-high with five blocks and added 10 kills with a .615 attack percentage.
- She led all players with eight blocks in a sweep of Youngstown State.
National and Conference Rankings
Wagers currently leads the ASUN Conference and ranks ninth nationally with an average of 1.67 blocks per set this season.
