The University of Louisville was well-represented at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, with three swimmers—Evgenii Somov, Andrej Barna, and Daria Golovaty—competing on Thursday morning at the Paris La Defense Arena.
Men’s 50M Freestyle:
- Evgenii Somov: Competing as a neutral athlete, Somov, a member of the Cardinals’ NCAA championship 200 medley relay team, swam in Heat 5 of the 50M freestyle. He touched fourth with a time of 23.43.
- Andrej Barna: A 17-time All-American for the Cardinals, Barna competed in Heat 7 of the 50M freestyle, finishing fifth with a time of 22.19. The top qualifier for the evening’s semifinals was Australian swimmer Cameron McEvoy, who clocked a time of 21.32.
Women’s 4x200M Free Relay:
- Daria Golovaty: Incoming freshman Daria Golovaty swam the second leg of the 4x200M free relay for the Israeli team. The team finished 11th overall with a time of 7:45.63. Australia posted the fastest time in the prelims, securing the top seed for the finals with a matching time of 7:45.63.
