Richard Sullivan – From Pitcher to Pictures

0

Richard Sullivan discusses his journey from professional baseball to becoming a watercolor artist. He explains that he’s always been interested in both art and baseball since childhood. He found a college that allowed him to pursue both passions simultaneously.

After playing professional baseball for six years in the minor leagues, Sullivan transitioned to focusing on his art career. He discovered that watercolor painting gave him a similar feeling of energy and focus that he experienced while pitching.

Sullivan explains that he enjoys capturing the energy and focus of athletes “in the zone” through his watercolor paintings. He finds watercolor particularly appealing because it requires careful planning and focus, similar to pitching. Unlike other painting mediums, watercolor doesn’t allow for easy corrections, which Sullivan finds challenging and engaging.

The artist now has a booth at Logan Street Market in the Germantown area, where he paints live and sells his artwork. He sees his artistic journey as an extension of his athletic career, allowing him to channel the same intensity and focus into a new medium.
