WKU Women’s Golf junior Catie Craig claimed the 122nd Women’s North and South Amateur Championship on Saturday afternoon, marking a significant milestone in her golfing career.
Craig, a Georgia native, delivered an exceptional performance on the historic Pinehurst No. 2 course, which recently hosted the U.S. Open. She consistently stayed near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament, tying for third place in both rounds of stroke play with a score of 143 each day. Over the two days, Craig tallied five birdies, showcasing her skill and determination.
Advancing to match play as the three seed, Craig faced off against golfers from Florida State and the University of North Carolina, successfully advancing to the final four. In her semifinal match, Craig defeated Vanderbilt’s Lynn Lim 2&1, earning her spot in the championship matchup against the number one seed, Macy Pate.
In the final, Craig built a commanding 3-up lead before sinking a putt on the 15th hole to secure a 4&3 victory and claim the championship. This win adds to an already impressive summer for Craig, who was recently named a CUSA Scholar Athlete of the Year.
