In the opening round of the 2024-25 season, Kentucky women’s golf posted a 17-over-par 305 at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational on Sunday at Champion Trace at Keene Trace Golf Club. The Wildcats currently sit in eighth place out of 11 teams, 10 shots behind the leader, TCU, with 36 holes remaining.
Sophomore Brooke Oberparleiter, playing as an individual, was Kentucky’s top performer, carding a 1-over-par 73, which included four birdies. Oberparleiter’s birdies came on holes 2, 4, 8, and 15, placing her in a tie for seventh after 18 holes. Head coach Golda Borst praised her team’s effort, saying, “Our team played with a great deal of heart and passion today. Having such a young team presents the opportunity for growth, and I’m excited about the group we have. We look forward to the next two days and the chance to move up the leaderboard.”
Kentucky’s counting scores came from Marta López Echevarría (75), C.A. Carter (76), Elin Pudas Remler (77), and Raleygh Simpson (77), while sophomore Cathryn Brown added a 6-over 78. López Echevarría’s 3-over-par round places her inside the top 20 at T19, with Carter at T25 and Remler and Simpson tied for 32nd. Simpson contributed four birdies to Kentucky’s total of 11 for the day.
Competing individually alongside Oberparleiter, Anastasia Hekkonen and Karlie Campbell turned in rounds of 79 (+7) and 80 (+8), respectively.
Round two of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational begins Monday with individual players teeing off at 8:30 a.m. and the Kentucky lineup starting at 9:20 a.m. Fans are encouraged to attend, as admission is free.
